Police: 61-Year-Old Monk Assaulted After Chasing Robbery Suspect

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police have released surveillance video of a Buddhist monk as he was attacked and robbed inside a Sunoco in South Philadelphia on Sunday, January 3.

Authorities say the 61-year-old victim was buying lotto tickets at the gas station, located at 801 South Broad Street, when a black male snuck up from behind and grabbed about $350 from him.

The surveillance footage shows the victim run after the robber before the two get into a struggle outside.

The suspect was able to push his victim to the ground before taking off in a dark silver car.

The victim was cut on his leg during the scuffle.

Police say the suspect’s car is a dark silver, newer-model Ford Mustang with a PA tag of JHY-3783.

Detectives say anyone who sees the suspect should call 911 immediately and avoid approaching him.
