PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Milo Yiannopoulos, an Associate Editor for Breitbart.com, claims Twitter un-verified his account because he is a conservative.
Yiannopoulos, talking with Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, criticized Twitter for how they’ve handled his account and thinks he will eventually be banned.
“Trust is being eroded by Twitter because they’re making arbitrary, politically motivated decisions without being honest with their users. Now, if Twitter was just going to say, we’re a liberal platform, we like progressive values, conservatives, watch out, if you step over the line or make jokes we don’t like, we’re probably going to ban you, users would, at least, appreciate the honesty. But Twitter doesn’t do that. It has, instead, deliberately opaque rules and guidelines and it misrepresents ridicule and criticism, which are essential parts of healthy debate in the public square and it misrepresents ridicule and criticism as abuse and harassment.”
He insists he’s never done anything that would actually violate the social media site’s terms of service.
“I certainly don’t engage in anything abusive or anything like harassment or cruel or targeting any individual, but I don’t suppose they like my jokes very much. I like to make jokes about feminists. I like to make jokes about Black Lives Matter. I like to make jokes about mass Muslim immigration and I don’t see anything wrong with that.”
Yiannopoulos contended that there are a lot of users on Twitter that have done worse things than he has.
“There are convicted rapists. There are abusers. There are harassers. There are really bad people on Twitter who are still verified. Shaun King, one of the former leaders of Black Lives Matter, has lied about his race, lied about money, now has been ostracized from the movement…still verified on Twitter despite the fact that he libels people on a daily basis. What did I do? I’m a gay guy who cracks a few jokes about feminists, but because I’m a conservative, Twitter doesn’t want me around.”
