Fellow Officer Posts Incredible Tribute To His Brother In Blue Wounded In Ambush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  A Facebook post written by a fellow Philadelphia police officer, paying homage to his brother in blue wounded during an ambush Thursday night, has gone viral.

The post, by Officer Jonny Castro, gives an incredible account of the moment Officer Jesse Hartnett was shot as he sat in his patrol car in West Philadelphia.

Even more haunting is how Ofc. Castro describes how the suspect walked toward Harnett with his weapon raised and opened fire from across the street.

But the assault didn't stop there.  Castro painfully details how the suspect kept shooting as he walked right up to the driver's side window, stuck his gun inside Ofc. Harnett's vehicle, and fired off more rounds at point-blank range.

Castro wrote the post after he watched surveillance video of the shooting and praised Ofc. Hartnett for being able to go after his attacker.

"You ducked your head down at just the right moment that rounds actually missed your head by inches. 3 bullets tore into your arm, shattering the bone and severing an artery. Without hesitation, you fought your attacker almost instantly," Castro wrote.  "You drew your service weapon and viciously returned fire. It was literally a fight for life and death."

Castro's post has already been shared more than 56,000 times on Facebook.
