Powerball Jackpot Jumps To Largest In US History

By Mike Dougherty, Justin Finch

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There was no winner in Wednesday night's $500 million Powerball jackpot, so Saturday's drawing is now worth a record-setting $700 million.

If you choose the lump sum cash payout, lottery officials say it will be worth $428 million. Of course, these numbers could climb as more tickets are sold.

Kevin McCaskill of Willingboro, New Jersey doesn't usually play the lottery, but he's thinking about making an exception for this one.

"I just might. It's a lot of money. I can't fathom. I wouldn't be working anymore."

Melvin from Lindenwold, New Jersey says he's going to quit his job, but he'll work for himself if he wins.

"Own my own mechanic shop, have my own business and everything."

He says he would still work because he's a 'workaholic.'

There are five tickets that matched five of the six numbers, worth one million dollars each. The winning numbers are 2-11-47-62-63, and the Powerball is 17.

"I played two bucks, and didn't win," says Willie Newson.

As for Saturday's drawing, it's important to note if you're in an office pool, that does not increase the odds of winning. Also, most jackpots are generated by computers so your lucky numbers won't help you.

You have a greater chance of getting struck by lightning than winning the $700 million, but that won't stop people. Why?

Because there's always a chance!
