Weather: A Brief Warming Trend Before Another Shot Of Arctic Air

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After the first blast of arctic air of the season, temperatures return more Spring-like by the weekend.

Monday and Tuesday brought the coldest air since early March 2015, but this afternoon the cold arctic air has already moved out. High temperatures return to near average today, and then warm up each day as we head into the weekend. High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be in the 50s, but it does come at a price. Don't expect much sunshine this weekend and there will be a chance of a shower on Saturday and a better chance for steady rain on Sunday.

If you are excited about the milder temperatures, don't get used to it as another shot of arctic air is in the forecast. The overall jet stream pattern has flipped from the December setup, now allowing more frequent hits of arctic air to spill into the Delaware Valley.

Our next shot of arctic air will arrive on Tuesday bringing back high temperatures below average in the 30s for a few days.

This jet stream trend looks to continue for the next few weeks. So expect January temperatures to end up closer to average or possibly below average.
