Brothers In "Fort Dix Five" Case To Ask For New Trial In Rare Hearing

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) --  Three brothers involved in the "Fort Dix Five" case will get a rare hearing in federal court Wednesday.

The brothers were convicted in 2008 for their part in an alleged plot to take over a New Jersey military base.

As KYW Community Affairs reporter Cherri Gregg tells us, they're hoping to get a new trial.

Dritan, Shain and Eljvir Duka are brothers sentenced to life for an alleged conspiracy to kill American military personnel at Fort Dix.

The Albanian Muslims became the subject of a 16-month investigation after shooting range video was turned over to the FBI... they claim the feds entrapped them.

"They were given life sentences for a conspiracy that basically they did not know about," Lynne Jackson, who runs Project SALAM, told KYW Newsradio.

The group has been holding weekly vigils outside of the federal courthouse in Camden since November.

They'll be there Wednesday morning before the Duka brothers make their case before a judge, claiming their attorneys coerced them to forgo testifying in their defense.

"We believe they are innocent and we really hope they can come home," Jackson said.

Jackson also says Duka supporters from all over the country will attend the hearings.
