Two Local Women In The Running For Entrepreneur Competition
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The U.S. Small Business Administration will be awarding thousands of dollars to female entrepreneurs in a few months, and two local women business owners are in the running.
The competition is called "Innovate Her" and it's looking at products and services which impact the lives of women and families.
One of the semi-finalists is Yasmine Mustafa, founder of Roar for Good. She's created a safety pendant.
"And if you're in trouble, it has two modes, an alarm mode and a silent mode. In a life threatening situation, alarm mode will emit an 85-decibel alarm, it will message family and friends with your location and we're working on a way to have it call 9-1-1 as well," Mustafa explained.
The other local contestant is Patrice Banks, who founded Girls Auto Clinic, which teaches women about the mechanics of their vehicle and how to make repairs.
She's also written a book and created an apparel line.
The finalists will be announced in March and the first prize winner will receive $40,000.
