Cosby Attorney: It's Sad He Would Be Dragged Through This

ELKINS PARK, Pa. (CBS/AP) —  Eyewitness News caught up with Bill Cosby's attorney outside his Montgomery County home a short while ago and asked her about the charge against her client.

"It's sad for his legal team, for his family, that he would be dragged through this, that this would be a political maneuver, that this would be a fulfillment of a campaign promise, as opposed to something that is necessary for justice," Monique Pressley, Cosby's Attorney, told Eyewitness News.

Earlier this afternoon, Pressley said a sexual assault charge is unjustified and that the comedian will be exonerated following a vigorous defense.

Pressley also said the charge by the Montgomery County district attorney's office in Pennsylvania was no surprise.

Cosby was arraigned Wednesday afternoon in Elkins Park.

He is charged with drugging and sexually assaulting the woman in 2004 inside his home near Philadelphia.

It's the first criminal case brought against the comedian out of the torrent of allegations that destroyed his good-guy image as America's Dad.

The 78-year-old comedian said under oath that he had consensual sexual contact with the woman.
