Family Dog Scares Away Intruders During Attempted Delaware Burglary

NEW CASTLE COUNTY, Del. (CBS) - Burglars attempting to rob a Delaware home were stopped right in their tracks thanks to a family dog. The four-legged hero scared away the intruders before they could do any harm.

Police say two people tried breaking into the home, when they were stopped by the family pet named 'Precious."

The two-year-old Pit Bull likely prevented some grinches from ruining the holiday.

"Two guys tried to break in," says homeowner Stephanie Lambert. "They must have not seen the 'Beware Of Dog' sign."

So when her sister heard the commotion downstairs around 10 p.m. Saturday, she let Precious out of her cage, causing the intruders to take off.

"They came here to do damage," says Lambert, who adds the  kid's Christmas toys were still there after the incident.

Police say nobody is in custody and just a vague description of the suspects is available.

CBS 3 is told the damage to the home is about $1,000.

Authorities ask that anyone with information on the incident contact them at 302-573-2800.
