Ship Refloated After Running Aground In Delaware River
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Coast Guard says a ship transporting scrap metal ran aground in the Delaware River but has been successfully refloated.
Officials said the 622-foot Marshall Islands-flagged motor vessel Odigitria ran aground at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday as it was heading to Grows Terminal in Morrisville, Pennsylvania.
The Coast Guard said officials communicated hourly with the Delaware River pilots concerning the status of the ship, which was successfully refloated at about 1 p.m. Saturday.
Lt. j.g. Jonas Miller, command duty officer at Sector Delaware Bay, said in a statement that no one was injured and the event caused no pollution.
A damage survey is pending. Miller said officials will try to find out what caused the grounding, looking at factors such as aids to navigation, vessel traffic, and tides and currents.
