Experts Say The Warm Weather Could Be Sticking Around For A Little Bit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- While other parts of the country are experiencing some wicked weather, things have been pretty calm and warm.

You may not need to break out the shorts like many people did on Christmas Day, but the above average temps are expected to stick around for a little while longer according to Lance Franck, a N National Weather Service meteorologist.

"Into the first week of January, still looks like temperatures are going to be above average overall," Franck said. "Certainly doesn't mean we can't have a cold snap, but certainly overall temperatures are expected to be above average."

He says the warmer weather is the result of a ridge in the Jet stream on the East Coast.

"Which means the Jet stream has been displaced to the north and west of us, so that's created a southwest flow of air and brought more tropical air into our region."

Franck says this December is on pace to go down as one of the warmest in Philadelphia's recorded history.
