This Christmas, A Local Synagogue Has A Sweet Treat For Police And Firefighters
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Members of a synagogue in Northeast Philadelphia have been hard at work over the past few days, baking cookies for the people who serve the community every day of the year, including Christmas.
At the Congregations of Shaare Shamayim Synagogue, the basement kitchen was buzzing, with adults mixing ingredients, and a few little kids learning the fine art of dropping spoonfuls of dough onto a cookie sheet. Six year old Sophia Brancato knew exactly what the job was about.
"Making cookies for people who have to work on Christmas, police officers, and doctors," Brancato said.
Rabbi Daniel Wolpe says the effort is a great opportunity for the kids to learn about something else, giving back to the community.
"We want all these kids to grow up knowing they live in a country where people of all different faiths, and all different traditions, can all be part of the same experience, and can all be part of one community, " Rabbi Wolpe said.
And make Christmas a little brighter
