Big Red Bows Used In Car Commercials Available At Local Company

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ever wonder where those big, red bows you see on cars this time of year come from?

KYW Suburban Bureau chief Jim Melwert caught up with a distributor in the Philadelphia area.

It's called the "Car Bow Store" and it's based in Warminster.

Company president Micheal Rudolph says he got the idea to market the bows after he saw them in the Lexus commercials, and he says in the four years they've been making the bows, they've seen quite a jump in sales.

"That first I think we must have sold 8,000. And then it went to 14 [thousand], and then to 17-[thousand] and this year we'll be over 25 [thousand]," Rudolph explained.

It's grown to the point where they're planning an expansion.

Rudolph says it's rare that car dealerships have bows left over from previous years and they usually give them to customers.

"It sounds ridiculous but people will say I'll buy the car if you give me the bow," he said.

But he says it's not just car dealerships who buy them, but also home builders or even supermarkets.
