Man Fatally Shot On His Abington Front Porch

ABINGTON, Pa., (CBS) – Police are investigating a deadly shooting in Abington, Montgomery County.

Sources tell Eyewitness News an argument quickly got out of control Wednesday afternoon when a man pulled out a gun, then shot and killed 73-year-old Richard Duncan on the front porch of his Abington home.

"I was in my house and heard a bang-bang. It sounded like a gun. I went to my window and didn't see anything. I was scared to open the door," neighbor Gladys Wilson said.

Wilson knew Duncan for many years. He was a former marine.

"The first thing I thought he had committed suicide, but that wasn't it," Wilson said.

Authorities say the shooter, a man who knew Duncan, fled the scene, but was later confronted by officers.

According to police the suspect pulled out a gun then shot himself.

He was rushed to the hospital where he is in critical condition.

The victim, Richard Duncan was a regular at the local VFW in Willow Grove.

"I just can't believe this happened to him," friend Barry Cotton said.

Barry cotton knew duncan from his volunteer work with the VFW.

"He was a very nice man. I've known him quite a long time. He'd do anything for you," he said.

Police have not yet released the name of the man in the hospital, because he has not been officially charged at this point.

Family members told CBS 3's David Spunt off-camera they don't know why this happened, and that Richard Duncan should be remembered as a man who made a difference.
