South Philadelphia Street Renamed In Memory Of Hit-And-Run Victim

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A South Philadelphia street has been renamed in memory of a woman who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver in Holmesburg, one year ago.

Thirty-three-year-old Theresa Pozzi was visiting a friend at Curran Fromhold Correctional Facility last December when she was hit by a truck while crossing State Road. The driver fled the scene. Despite pleas from the family and surveillance video of the incident, Pozzi's killer has yet to be caught.

On Tuesday morning, a day shy of the one year anniversary of the tragedy, the 600 block of Kimball Street, where Pozzi lived, was also named Theresa's Way in her honor.

The street renaming was organized by Simonetta Lein, who runs an organization called The Wishwall Foundation, and met the Pozzi family during Pope Francis' visit to Philadelphia.

"Everybody will remember her," Lein said, "remember the beautiful person that she was. That was worth it."

Lein also worked with City Councilman Mark Squilla to erect a billboard, which will advertise a $15,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in Pozzi's death.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-685-3180.
