Pa. State House Set To Vote On Budget Deal

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) --  The state House has made an unexpected about-face and is now poised to vote, as soon as Wednesday, on a budget agreed to by the Senate and Governor Wolf.

The budget deal ran off the rails Saturday when a pension reform bill linked to the budget failed in the House.

Over the objections of Senate leaders and Governor Wolf, House Republican leaders signaled their intention to pass emergency, short-term funding.

But in a move led by Philadelphia Republican John Taylor, the House Tuesday instead took procedural votes to put the budget deal back on track.

Taylor says some members don't understand that delaying a final budget further would have dire consequences.

"They've never seen the type of catastrophe that's coming in Pennsylvania if this doesn't get done. If social service agencies continue not to be funded, and if schools start to close, there will be negative consequences that these members have never seen," Taylor told KYW Newsradio.

Governor Wolf was cautiously optimistic, calling Tuesday's developments a "nice step in the right direction."
