Christmas Comes Early For Family Of Fallen Philadelphia Police Officer

YEADON, Pa. (CBS) - Firefighters, police officers and Santa Claus delivered an early Christmas surprise to the family of fallen Philadelphia Police officer Robert Wilson III Sunday night.

What started as a Go Fund Me page ended with Collingdale Fire Companies #1 and #2 taking over, and buying gifts for Officer Wilson's family.

Among those presents was a Chevy Silverado Power Wheels truck for his youngest son -- Robert Wilson IV.

But this wasn't just any truck.

"On the hood of the vehicle you'll see a picture of Robert Wilson as well as his badge number," explains Daniel Harold with Collingdale Fire Company #1. "And then on the side of the vehicle you'll also see a police emblem with the name 'Chubbs' which is the nickname that Officer Wilson had for his youngest son."

The young boys mother -- Crystal Benson -- says this will be her child's first Christmas without his father, making this the perfect present:

"Every time he sees his father's picture he just smiles. And that's a good thing that that's on the car cause he's gonna play with that a lot and he's gonna know his father is with him.

She couldn't contain her emotions when she saw the special decals on the car:

"To know that he could see his dad's face everyday on that car as he's driving it, I know he's going to be happy."

Harold says it was just what the family needed days before Christmas:

"Everybody's happy, smiles on everybody's faces, tears of joy."

The first responders also had gifts for Benson and other members of the family.

Brian Thomas, who owns Premier Window Tinting in Brookhaven, made the decals on the truck.
