Officials At Thomas Jefferson, Philadelphia Universities Sign Letter Of Intent To Explore Merging The Two Schools

By Justin Udo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Officials at Thomas Jefferson University and Philadelphia University Thursday signed a letter of intent to explore merging the two schools.

Tight now the partnership between the two schools is exploratory, but they say they hope to reach a definitive agreement in 2016.

"And that will lead to the creation of a comprehensive university that delivers really impact education and value for students in health, in science, in architecture, in design, in fashion, in business, and engineering."

Officials say this partnership is central to career paths that will allow students to be innovative in their fields of choice.

"It's a dynamic combination. An integrated Philadelphia University and Thomas Jefferson University will allow us to reimagine education."

Officials say that once they do officially merge, they'll start working on a new name as they work to brand the university.
