Montgomery County Woman Gets Prison Time For Supplying Daughter With Heroin

By Jim Melwert

NORRISTOWN, Pa., (CBS) -- A Harleysville woman will spend at least 5 years in state prison, for shooting her own daughter up with heroin.

Thirty-seven-year-old Patricia Davenport pleaded guilty in October to not only buying heroin for the 15-year-old, but also to injecting it into her daughter.

Davenport broke down in tears as a letter written by her daughter was read in court. It said "You, a mother, put heroin in your own daughter's arm," and "I have forgiven, but this is something I will never forget."

Prosecutor Kathleen McLaughlin says it's unimaginable a mother would do this to her child, but she adds, they felt Davenport showed no remorse other than getting caught.

"She just wanted everyone to feel bad for her and not for what she did to her child as a mother, and that's why I feel this was an appropriate sentence," said McLaughlin.

Judge William Carpenter, handing down the sentence said, he's seen a mountain of bad things, but this is "high up on the mountain top." He sentenced Davenport to 5-10 years on possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, 1-7 years concurrent on endangering the welfare of children, and 6-months, time-served, on conspiracy to sell drugs.

As she was led from the courtroom Davenport, handcuffed and head down, said to reporters she was sorry she hurt her daughter.
