PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- There's a fascination about shopping overseas for holiday gifts. Here are a few thoughts on the best getaway buys.
On a getaway to Ireland, the Dublin papers were filled with ads for New York travel packages and stories about a hundred thousand Irish traveling to the states to Christmas shop. Clothing was the big buy.
So what do American travelers look for?
Alcohol often tops the list - Tequila from Mexico, and in Canada's Nova Scotia, which means New Scotland, a visit to a unique distillery yielded a unique bottle.
"What better than single malt?" said a whiskey maker. "It's synonymous with the Scots."
That whiskey is called Glen Breton and the distillery visit is a pleasure.
Now, to keep the Irish balance of payments alive, a getaway to Dublin can yield some fine Irish lace. It's also one of the big buys in Bermuda, along with English tailored goods and fine cashmere.
The big question is how about Cuban cigars?
Yes, you can bring them back from Cuba, but not from other countries.
