Police: 23-Year-Old Man Drove Into A House Because He Was Texting

NEWARK, Del. (CBS) --    New Castle County Police say a man has been cited after he drove into a home while he was texting.

It happened this afternoon in Newark's Woodland Trails neighborhood.

Authorities say they got a 911 call that a silver Pontiac Bonneville drove into a house on Archer Circle.

Once emergency crews arrived, they searched the home and found no one was inside at the time.

The 23-year-old driver was on the scene and was not injured.

He told police he missed a turn that caused him to drive onto a grassy yard and over a short chain link fence, before he crashed into the back of the house.

A county building inspector determined the house is no longer inhabitable.

The Delaware Red Cross is working to assist the homeowner.

The driver was cited for using a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle and inattentive driving.
