Bensalem Council Approves Series Of Ordinances In Redevelopment Of Delaware River Waterfront

BENSALEM, Pa., (CBS) -- Bensalem Township Council approves a series of ordinances, in what officials call "a big step" in the redevelopment of 675 acres of the Delaware River waterfront.

The redevelopment would ideally include improvements to SEPTA stations, bike and walking paths, a town center, high tech office space in addition to residential and light industrial usage.

"It's major for us, it's a renaissance I think second to none along the river," said Bensalem Mayor Joe DiGirolomo.

Mayor DiGirolomo says with these eight ordinances now approved, the next step is to get budgetary approval to hire a Director of Economic Development.

"Once we get that in place, that person or persons will work directly on selling that area and working with developers from all across the country," said Mayor DiGirolomo.

DiGirolomo says it's been a dream of his, as he watched his father's farm right on the river go from country to industrial use.
