WEATHER: Record Temperatures This Weekend?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The holiday season is here. Just 12 days until the official start of Winter and 15 days until Christmas. A time for short sleeves, iced coffees, sunglasses and no jackets required. That is the setup this week as temperatures soar through the 60s and challenge record levels by the weekend.

The streak of warm weather continues in Philadelphia. November proved to be a very warm month with a temperature 5.6 degrees above the monthly average, the 2nd warmest November ever in the city. So far this December, everyday has been above average and temperatures will continue to climb and break records that have stood for over 80 years.

Saturday 's high temperature will be 65 degrees, last set in 1931. Sunday's high of 67 degrees will break the previous record of 65, for the date, last reached in 1923. Monday's temperature will also be about 20 degrees above average but a few degrees shy of the record of 69. Suffice it to say - baby, it's warm outside!

If those stats don't grab your attention here is something else to consider. Our normal high for December 10th is 46 degrees. This also happens to be the low temperature we are forecasting for tonight. That means our forecasted low is equal to our normal high. Another interesting note is that the temperature in Philadelphia has yet to fall below freezing this season. In fact, it took until the morning of December 6th to just to dip to 32 degrees. This is the 2nd latest in the year we ever hit the freezing point. The number one spot belongs to December 11, 1939.

Football fans will enjoy fantastic weather this weekend. The Army/Navy kickoff temperature will be 63 degrees and Eagles fans will feel like they are going to a pre-season game with a kickoff temperature of 64 degrees. It was only two years ago, this week at Lincoln Financial Field, that the players were barely visible because of heavy snow. It was on December 8, 2013 when 8.6 inches of snow fell during the Eagles/Detroit game. The kickoff temperature that day was 33 degrees, obviously a much different story this time around.

Temperatures will cool off a bit by the middle of next week but will still remain above average. For all you winter lovers there is no snow in the forecast so you'll have to wait a little longer. The Eyewitness Weather Team is forecasting 18-24" of snow this winter with most of it falling later in the season.
