Study: 1 In 5 Americans Online 'Almost Constantly'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – It's no secret that people are on the internet a lot these day.

A new Pew Research Center poll finds 73 percent of Americans use the web on a daily basis.

Of that number, about one in five, or 21 percent, report going online 'almost constantly.'

According to the survey, younger adults are on the front line of the constantly. Researchers say 36 percent of 18- to 29-year-olds go online almost constantly and 50 percent go online multiple times per day.

The survey found just six percent of those 65 and older go online almost constantly.

The research center says this is the first time it has included 'almost constantly' as an answer option in its survey of internet usage.
