Diplomatic Christie Responds To Trump's Muslim Ban

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  New Jersey Governor and Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie weighs in on Donald Trump's controversial call to ban Muslims from entering the U.S.

In an interview Tuesday night on New Jersey 101.5, Governor Christie stated that Trump's stance on a complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States is a novice idea.

"It's the difference between somebody who has experience protecting Americans and someone who doesn't, and I spent 7 years of my life protecting America," Christie told the radio station.

Mr. Christie says he has a far better plan to keep American's safe than Trump's proposal to keep out all Muslims trying to enter the country.

"I know there are ways to do this through enhanced surveillance technique, before Christmas they should renew the metadata program with the NSA. We should be enhancing what law enforcement tools are available," he said.

When asked if Trump's time in the race was coming to an end, Christie responded with a diplomatic answer.

"Donald Trump will be as serious a candidate for president as Donald wants to be and that's totally within his control. Whether or not he is in the race or not, is in his control," Christie said.
