Talks For Temple University's Proposed Football Stadium On Hold
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Temple University's Board of Trustees put a hold Tuesday on further action on a proposed football stadium and athletic complex in North Philadelphia.
As protesters shouted outside Sullivan Hall on Temple's campus, Temple trustees board chairman Patrick O'Connor announced during the meeting that Mayor-elect Jim Kenney has asked him to defer board action until Kenney and his team meet with university officials to review the plans.
"We have to communicate with him. He's new, he's newly elected. We will communicate with him and whoever else we need to do to do the right thing for the city of Philadelphia," O'Connor told KYW Newsradio.
O'Connor says he hopes the sit-down with the new mayor can be arranged in the coming week to review a proposal for a 35,000-seat-stadium complex estimated to cost about $100 million.
Temple's lease for use of Lincoln Financial Field for football games ends in 2017 and the school's president says decisions have to be made soon about a future site.
