Saturday Brings Potential Setback For PA Budget Deal
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Another day of closed-door meetings among majority Republican members of the State House Saturday spelled potential trouble for the tentative deal worked out by GOP legislative leaders and Democratic Governor Tom Wolf.
While their leaders avoided reporters, GOP members of the State House emerged from meetings saying they and their colleagues are now looking at passing a budget similar to one vetoed by Governor Wolf more than five months ago… and without a proposal to raise revenue by expanding the sales tax to include items not currently taxed.
Republican Seth Grove says he believes leaders did everything possible to negotiate in good faith, but…
"I think the rank and file aren't accepting of massive tax increases. And I think leadership realized that and they backed off and we're moving in a direction I think the caucus can go in."
Governor Wolf, meanwhile, issued a statement urging lawmakers to come together and pass a budget that reflects the framework agreed to last month.
