Jay Lloyd's Getaway: Kid Tracker

By Jay Lloyd

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- As the kids grow up and fly further away from the nest, the internet is making it easier to keep track of them.

It's really a daddy thing. With that first school trip that involves jet travel, you learn about flight trackers. They are web sites and apps that graphically show you where the plane is, its altitude, speed, course and estimated time of arrival. Sort of like, internet comfort food.

No matter how old the adult kids get, the habit of tracking their flights until landing is not easily broken. During the holidays it becomes more of an addiction. So, if you're new to the concept of fly spying on the offspring, just look up flight trackers.

I use Flight View and Flight Stats. All you need is the airline name and flight number, or originating airport and destination. Then go along for the ride.

But say the kids are off, cruising at sea. No problem. Just download the handy Marine Traffic app. It'll find the ship and even get pictures. Just don't tell the kids.
