Drexel Women Welcome Rare SEC Opponent To Town

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An SEC women's basketball team will make a rare visit to the DAC tonight as Drexel hosts Vanderbilt.

This will be just the third time the Dragons have entertained a team from the powerhouse conference. Back in 2011, the Dragons dropped a four point decision to Dawn Staley's South Carolina squad. Then in 2013, Drexel beat Florida en route to the WNIT title.

Drexel head coach Denise Dillon is looking forward to having the Commodores in town.

"It's exciting," Dillon tells KYW Newsradio. "It's really big. We had a call from them last year asking for a home-and-home and we don't get too many home games in the DAC, so getting Vanderbilt to come up here is great. We know our girls will rise to the occasion and our 'DAC Pack' is fired up, getting as many people in as possible to cheer us on for a big night."

Vanderbilt will come to town with a record of 5-2. The Dragons are 2-3 in the early going, coming off a couple of losses at the Christmas City Classic in Bethlehem.

"I think we're definitely trying to find our way," Dillon says. "We've had some challenging games thus far in the season. But we definitely need to figure out what we're about and not getting so wrapped up in our opponents."

Drexel is being led by junior forward Sarah Curran and her 16.8 points a game.

Tonight's game at the DAC tips-off at 7:00pm.
