Depression Treatment And Care

KYW Medical Reports Sponsored By Independence Blue Cross

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Depression affects one out of eight people at some point in their lives. The impact can not be minimized.

Depression has been described as if someone pulled a dark curtain over your eyes taking the beauty and happiness of life away. Many people don't understand that depression can be treated, or they refuse treatment because they do not want to let others know they have a psychologic health issue.

As a result, whether out of embarrassment or other reasons, they don't get the help they need. If you're someone who suffers from depression, and you really believe you're suffering from that, you should really take the time to get the care you need. It is the care that can make a major difference. It could change your life. You don't have to have that dark curtain over your eyes. You can actually enjoy life and find out that there is happiness that you can experience. Every day you wait is a day you could have care.
