Therapy Dogs Visit Drexel University Students To Ease Stress Of Final Exams

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A group of therapy dogs and their owners were invited to Drexel University today to help lower the stress levels of students finishing projects and studying for exams.

The line of students stretched around the terrace outside the Grand Meeting Room of LeBow Hall on Drexel's campus on Wednesday as a group of therapy dogs brought a special kind of comfort to students.

Kevin Montgomery, director of operations for the Lebow College of Business, organized the event.

"We have a lot of students that are not from the immediate Philadelphia area that do have dogs at home so this actually gives them an opportunity to come and hang out with dogs and sort of connect them with home again," said Kevin Montgomery, event organizer and the Director of Operations for the LeBow College of Business.

Emma Heckenberg, a freshman biology major, has two dogs of her own at home- all the way back in Melbourne, Australia.

She spent time with Kinsey, a 12-year-old Labrador, from South Jersey.

"This sort of thing just helps us relax, like it's pretty stressful coming up to finals time, so having something like this that's really lighthearted is a really good way to just let everything go for a couple of minutes," Heckenberg told KYW Newsradio.

Molly Roy is Kinsey's owner and she said, "for me it's just rewarding to see how she's so happy, but then everybody around her is really happy, too."
