Local FBI Veteran Discusses Police Tactics In California Mass Shooting

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --  There are a lot of moving parts to an investigation as big as the San Bernardino mass shooting that has left at least 14 dead and 17 more injured.

CBS 3's Diana Rocco talked with a local FBI veteran to get his insights about the steps law enforcement is taking now- and those it will take in the coming days.

The report of an active shooter comes just around 11 a.m. local time in San Bernardino.
A flurry of local law enforcement moves in joined by the FBI trying to flush out the shooters.

"There's always the fear shooters have blended into crowd of witnesses," former FBI agent JJ Klaver told Eyewitness News. "You have to apprehend them, get them off the street make community safe."

Klaver says once the wounded are tended to and the building is secure, officials start looking through surveillance footage."

"You are going to start with a description of the vehicle or person to get that info to the public," he said.

Klaver says it's going to take time to know if this was a workplace shooting or an act of terrorism, but as they look into the suspects' backgrounds, that should give them a clear picture of who they are and why they did what they did.

"What we are going to see is people who organized this attack have some connection to the building or the people inside," Klaver said.
