Health Benefits Of Family Meals

KYW Medical Reports Sponsored By Independence Blue Cross

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Study after study has shown that families that eat together seem to have fewer problems with issues like crime and addiction.

The most important reason may be the fact it allows them a chance to communicate. The conversations can be quite interesting as well. Many major issues from world peace to teenage broken hearts have been part of the dinnertime conversation but it is clear that there are other advantages as well. Spending more time around the family dinner table and less time in front of the TV can help prevent kids from getting fat. It is somewhat ironic that eating regular meals could help with weight.

Some advantages to eating as a family include foods lower in fat and a regular schedule of eating. I think the important point here is that you realize that family time is important for psychological reasons, but it can also help with balance of the overall day.
