Study: Guys Eat 93 Percent More Pizza When Dining With Women

ITHACA, NY (CBS) – It's been suggested that women tend to eat less when in the company of their significant other, but according to a Cornell University study, published in the journal Evolutionary Psychological Science, the opposite can be said about men.

A field study found men eat more food when sharing a meal with women than with men.

Researchers say, "Notably, men appear to eat larger quantities of both unhealthy (pizza) and healthy (salad) food when in the company of women."

More specifically, the study found men eating with women ate a whopping 93 percent more pizza and 86 percent more salad.

Researchers say women do not eat significantly differently depending on the sex of their dining partners, but while eating with men, women tended to estimate themselves to have eaten more and reported they were "rushed and overate."

Researchers say the findings concerning male overconsumption while in the presence of females appears to present an example of self-handicap behavior.
