Preps Underway For Delco Holiday Tradition

By David Madden

MEDIA, Pa., (CBS) --  A nearly four-decade tradition returns in Delaware County next weekend.

More than 20,000 people will make their way through the Festival of Lights display at Rose Tree Park in Media between its December 4th opening night and the close on January 3rd. This year's 39th annual program will be quite the sight.

"There's over a hundred thousand lights, 80 trees, different cutouts of Santa," Delaware County Council Chairman Mario Civera told KYW Newsradio. "This year we're featuring Snoopy and the Peanuts gang because that movie just came out."

The whole thing is free, thanks to various sponsors. This year, Acme Markets is footing the bill and for opening night next Friday, they'll provide cocoa and cookies while the Springton Lake Middle School choir serenades the crowd with holiday tunes and, of course, a visit from Santa himself.

All they need now is a warm fire and some chestnuts.
