Two Suburban Bridges Reopen Ahead Of Schedule After Repairs
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- PennDOT plans today to reopen two suburban bridges which had been closed for repairs.
The Maple Avenue Bridge in Bucks County and the Linfield Road Bridge connecting Limerick Township in Montgomery County and East Coventry in Chester County are scheduled to be re-opened for traffic today.
PennDOT's Charles Metzger says the Route 213/Maple Avenue Bridge was closed in July for reconstruction and was finished a month ahead of schedule.
The bridge carries traffic over the Neshaminy Creek in Middletown and Lower Southampton townships in Bucks County.
He says one element of the project will be a big boost for traffic management.
"The roundabout will improve traffic flow because it eliminates a signalized intersection and extremely tight left-hand turn from Bridgetown Pike to Route 213, which is Maple Avenue," Metzger says. "And, the new bridge will provide a direct link to the business districts in the lower part of Bucks County."
That includes better access to the Neshaminy and Oxford Valley malls.
The Linfield Road Bridge which runs over the Schuylkill River is set to open at 5 p.m. Metzger says it had been closed since May for repairs and work was completed a week ahead of schedule.
They removed the bridge deck and repaired the superstructure and deteriorated concrete on the substructure," Metzger says. "Construction finished a week ahead of schedule, so we're excited to get this bridge open and back to traffic before the holiday season."
