Senate Panel Issues Report On Possible Removal Of AG Kane

By Tony Romeo

HARRISBURG, Pa., (CBS) -- A special committee appointed by state Senate leaders is recommending that the full Senate consider removing embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane from office.

The Senate committee's vote was not unanimous but one of three Democratic members did join with Republicans to recommend that the Senate move forward with consideration of removing Kathleen Kane from office. Drew Crompton, general counsel to the top state Senator, Republican Joe Scarnati, says the timeline and procedures for moving ahead are yet to be determined, saying "this is the process that starts the process" but he makes this promise.

"We are going to go out of our way to insure that due process is given to her and her representatives. So that's the most important part of this process the way I read the constitution," said Crompton.

Kane is fighting back with a statement saying again she believes the process is unconstitutional and saying she plans to appoint a team of special prosecutors to investigate offensive emails circulated on government computers.
