USPS Offers Tips For Protecting Your Holiday Deliveries

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With the gift-giving season just around the corner, many people are ordering online and packages are arriving at their doorsteps.

If you have packages arriving home when you aren't, the United States Postal Service has some tips for you. Ray Daiutolo, regional spokesman for the Post Office, says the easiest way to protect those deliveries is recruiting a neighbor.

"You can ask them to be on the lookout for packages or parcels that you know that are going to be delivered that day," said Daiutolo.

Daiutolo says you can also track your package from the minute you order it.

"Most of the delivery companies are using tracking numbers. And customers now have the ability to go online and they can track the progress of their deliveries, to the day they know it's going to be delivered."

He says if you want even more control, consider renting a P.O. Box where you can pick up your deliveries at your convenience.
