Mayor-elect Kenney Plans To Help Schools On First Day Of His Administration

By Mike DeNardo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Mayor-elect Jim Kenney is planning to help schools on day one of his administration.

Jim Kenney says his January 4th inaugural party will benefit a nonprofit that raises money for schools.

"We're going to have an old-style neighborhood block party atmosphere in the Convention Center.  It is going to be a fundraiser for the Fund for the School District of Philadelphia," said Kenney.

Kenney says he has faith in the Fund and the people who run it.  So he urged those at the inaugural to bring their checkbooks and credit cards.  Another way he plans to help the Fund is by leasing-out the city's luxury boxes at the Linc, Citizens Bank Park and the Wells Fargo Center.  He says the boxes are nice to have, but the city doesn't need them.
