Ceremonial Check, But Real Money For Local Big Brothers/Big Sisters Programs
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's a big donation for local Big Brothers/Big Sisters programs.
Students at the People for People Charter School assembled an oversized puzzle that formed a ceremonial check.
The final piece revealed that the First Niagara Foundation was donating $125,000 to Big Brothers/Big Sisters organizations of Southeastern Pennsylvania, Bucks County and the Lehigh Valley.
SEPA CEO Marcus Allen says, "We're hoping to leverage these dollars in every way that we can to ensure that we can serve as many kids as we possibly can. We have currently about 1,500 kids on a waiting list."
Temple University senior Jessica Smith says she's learned so much from her Little Sister Tara.
"You think, you know, when you work with kids that you're going to be the one who's teaching them, and you would have a positive impact on their life. And you don't realize how much you change in the process."
The money will help to fund more than 80 mentor matches.
