Delaware Closes Out 2015 Season Saturday At Elon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Delaware Blue Hens will close out their 2015 college football season on Saturday as they travel down to North Carolina to take on Elon.

The Blue Hens are coming off a heartbreaking, 24-21 loss to 8-2 James Madison this past weekend. On defense, Delaware held James Madison 21 points and nearly 200 yards of offense below their season averages. On offense, the Blue Hens rolled up 295 yards rushing with two backs, redshirt freshman Thomas Jefferson (120) and sophomore Kareem Williams (113), going over 100 yards. But the Dukes won the game on a touchdown pass with just 17 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

"I was proud of (the team)," Delaware head coach Dave Brock tells KYW Newsradio. "We played physical up front on offense, we ran the ball, we dominated the line of scrimmage. We just weren't able to close out the game which is really, really unfortunate."

The loss dropped Delaware to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. It has been a frustrating season for the Blue Hens, but also one where a lot of young players have shown potential and in several cases, like with Jefferson and Williams, have emerged as playmakers.

"I think you have to look at it two ways," Brock says. "I think the record really is unacceptable from the standard that we want to set and that we should set. From a long range, program perspective, I think the pieces are in place to be the team that everybody wants us to be."

The Blue Hens will be taking on an Elon team on Saturday that is 4-6 and coming off a road win against Maine.

"They've really battled, that's what you see on film," Brock says. "They are incredibly opportunistic. They make something out of nothing at times. It really has served them well. We're going to have to go down there and play a great game. Starts with out defense, starts with stopping the run and then our ability to run the football is what will give us a chance."

Delaware beat Elon last season in Newark, 34-24.

Saturday's game will kickoff at noon.
