Positively Philadelphia: Christmas Village In Love Park

By Lauren Lipton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Christmas Village in Love Park opens early this year with a preview this coming weekend before it opens for a month on Thanksgiving Day.

"We will have our traditional European food: bratwurst from Germany, we have Austrian strudel, our French crepes, our Belgian waffles," says Timo Kargus, market organizer. "We have the Belgian fries this year. We will have Doner, Berlin Doner Kebab, which is something like a shawarma."

You can wash it all down with hot chocolate or a warm mug of spiced mulled wine.

"We will have a second booth from Chaddsford Winery," Kargus says. "We have wine tastings and lines last year were very long so we are having two booths."

There are lots of vendors from around the world for shopping and many more special things to see and do.

"We bring in beautiful Moravian stars," says Kargus. "They will illuminate our whole market. This year, we'll have an additional event coming up on December 4. It will be the Christmas Village lantern parade and the tree lighting of our market."

And why did they decide to bring Germany's Christmas Village to Philadelphia?

"The setup of this town has a very cozy European feel," Kargus says. "You have a Center City area here where people live, where people mingle. That is not totally common in all U.S. cities."
