Vigil Held In Center City To Honor Victims Of The Paris Attack

By Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than 5,000 French people live in our region, and Saturday night, some of them gathered in Love Park to prayer for the tragedy in their native land.

In the midst of a busy weekend night, silence fell over Love Park, as people gathered to light candles in memory of those killed in Paris. French citizens and Philadelphians alike gathered to pay their respects.

Gaelle, who is from just outside Normandy, has only been in the US for a few months.

"We just try to organize something here, for to let the people in France know we are here for them, even if we are like away from our own country."

Justin is also from France and says he is frustrated. He works in the city, and was here in the states, during the Charlie Heibdo massacre.

"And it's again and again, and the same that is happening again," says Justin, "The same people, the same, we gotta change that."

Will is a Temple student who came across the vigil while riding his bike.

"We just wanted to feel the ambience, even if it is across the seas," says Will. "You can definitely feel the impact, as it vibrates throughout the world, it's not just an attack against the world, but also just against humanity."

Another vigil is planned for Sunday, beginning at 4pm at the French International School of Philadelphia in Bala Cynwyd.
