Boys And Girls Club Of Camden County Showcases Talent With Water-Bots

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) --  Students and staff from the Boys and Girls Club of Camden County and The IDEA Performing Arts Center showcased the results of their STEM projects Thursday afternoon, while also announcing funding from AT&T that will help both programs continue to teach and inspire students in Camden County.

While the kids will benefit the most from the more than $33,000 in funding given by AT&T, the stars of Thursday's show were the water robots children from the Boys and Girls Club built. The water-bots were about 7-inches long with propellers on the back and bottom, and two long arms on the front used in this demonstration to collect wiffle balls in a pool. It was meant to represent a way in which mines could be removed from key bodies of water. Bernadette Shanahan with the Boys and Girls Club of Camden County says the funding will help keep this STEM programs afloat, adding they are more than just elaborate science projects.

"STEM programs teach our kids to be creative to work together as a team, to build, to be collaborative, and to form great, new ideas," Shanahan says.

A little less than half of the funding will go to the IDEA Performing Arts Center to help support it's Multi-Media Technology Training Program, which teaches kids video production, audio engineering, graphic design and mobile app development.
