WEATHER: A Partly Sunny, Mild Veterans Day

By Geoffrey Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- After a damp and dreary day on Tuesday, skies will brighten a bit for our Veterans.

Skies are still mostly cloudy, but the rain has finally pulled away up into New England. We expect to see the sun starting to peek out more as the day goes on. Temperatures will be several degrees above average, so certainly not a bad day. But it won't last very long! Showers quickly return to the picture on Thursday as a storm system moves east, but thankfully it won't produce the same severe weather that much of the central U.S. is experiencing today.

Skies clear on Friday, kicking off a drier stretch of weather. Unfortunately, colder weather moves in as well, with blustery conditions through the first half of the weekend.

Tropical Storm Kate has strengthened into a Hurricane this morning, becoming the 40th in recorded history to form in the Atlantic during November. It is the first to do so since Tomas in 2010. Ironically, the last November hurricane to make a U.S. landfall was also named Kate, back in 1985.

Thank you to all of the Veterans out there for your selfless service to our country!
