Looking Back At Election Day In The Suburbs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Election Day 2015 brought a huge win for democrats in Montgomery County. It saw republicans hang on to the Bucks County board of commissioners by the skin of their teeth. And the GOP maintain control in Delaware and Chester Counties.

So what does all this mean?

Democrat Josh Shapiro, following a record-setting margin in his win on in the Montgomery County commissioners race, says just eight years ago his party held only the minority appointed positions:

"We now control every single office in Montgomery County, the Democrats do, other than the two positions reserved for the minority party."

St Joe's history professor and political analyst Randall Miller says as Montgomery Democrats got better results, they got better candidates. He says a similar trend might be developing in Bucks County:

"And even though the republicans with Charles Martin won, you know, he eked it out."

Miller says Republicans were able to hold off a decent slate of Democrats in Delaware County:

"It's not up for grabs, but it's no longer a given either."

What is a given, he says, is Chester County, which remains a Republican stronghold.
