Local Students Participate In Web Chat About Politics, Elections With Committee Of Seventy

By Hadas Kuznits

NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa., (CBS) -- Some students at Episcopal Academy participated in a web chat about politics and elections with the Committee of Seventy.

Upper school Episcopal Academy U.S. history teacher Jennifer Maier says the web chat between her students and the Committee of 70 was text based. They submitted typed questions about the upcoming general election and received responses in real time.

"They asked everything from the nature of elections in general to particular odds on whether certain candidates have a shot at winning," said Maier.

"Some students were putting in five, six questions at a time and waiting to see what questions would get answers," said Meier.

She says it was an enlightening conversation.

"I think that they were a little surprised that some of the questions that they thought were very direct questions sometimes received very political answers, which were not directly answering the questions," she said.

Student Piper Hartman says it was an interesting session.

"Even if you're not going to be able to vote, I think it's important to know what's happening," said Hartman.

Junior Michael Wilkinson also participated in the web chat.

"As an upcoming voter I was able to better establish my views on these candidates that we talked about," said Wilkinson.
