Increased Security Could Be Coming To U.S. Airports After Russian Jet Crash
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Suspicions over the Russian jet crash could bring tighter airport security as soon as today.
The Department of Homeland Security is expected to call for tighter security at foreign airports that have direct flights to the U.S. The precautions come in the wake of the weekend crash of a Russian jet in Egypt that killed more than 200 -- and suspicions that a terrorist bomb may have caused the crash.
The step-up in security for overseas flights could also bring tighter baggage screening at domestic airports.
If any of that means more inconvenience, traveler Sharon from Binghamton says it's worth it:
"Yes, definitely. I mean, you want to be safe."
This traveler agrees:
"I believe it's worth it. It's a pain 'cause it takes longer but it's worth it."
Jay Mills of Colorado suggested taking a critical look at the TSA to make skies safer:
"What changes are they going to make to make it better? They need to make changes within the personnel, within the agency as opposed to all these knee-jerk reactions that are happening."
Among the measures reportedly being discussed include possibly matching baggage to manifest lists before planes take off.
