New Designer Collection At A Bargain Brings Out Fashionistas In Center City

By Jan Carabeo, Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - There were people either camped out in their lawn chairs, covered in blankets, or just standing outside the H&M store at 16th and Chestnut Streets Thursday morning.

The Balmain x H&M collection went on sale at 250 H&M stores around the world beginning at 8 a.m.

So why were hundreds of people lined up down 16th street? Einass from Southwest Philadelphia explains to KYW Newsradio:

"A lot of people can't afford what a lot of people in Hollywood can afford - the $14,000 dresses or the $20,000 shoes or jeans or whatever it is."

One shopper who spoke with CBS 3 Eyewitness News called this a "once in a lifetime collaboration."

It's a taste of luxury from a top designer at a more affordable price. Some people were camping outside the store for nearly 24 hours. A couple of people from Jackson Township and Freehold, New Jersey traveled a few hours because this location is the closest store to them that is selling the collection.

A store employee at the Center City location handed out tickets and wristbands Thursday morning so everybody knew exactly where they stand.

Some people in Singapore camped out for three days.
