Merrill Reese Shares Fond And Annoying Memories Of Eagles vs. Cowboys

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Eagles vs. Cowboys week is always a special one for fans in both cities. This tends to be the case regardless of what's at stake. The Eagles will look to keep pace in the NFC East race this week, while the Cowboys will try to stop the bleeding and avoid a sixth loss.

There are very few people on the planet that know this rivalry better than the voice of the Eagles, Merrill Reese. He joined The Josh Innes Show on Thursday to share his thoughts on the rivalry.

So, what's Reese's favorite Eagles-Cowboys memory?

"My very favorite moment occurred on January 11th, 1981 when, on a frigid day, Veterans Stadium, Wilbert Montgomery exploded against the Dallas Cowboys on the right side and disappeared into the end zone," Reese recalled.

"We knew that the Eagles were headed for Superbowl XV."

There has not been any love lost between these two franchises and fan bases...just ask Bennie Logan.

Reese took a moment to describe how one Cowboy in particular would tend to irk him. "Hated [Michael Irvin] when he was a player," Reese admitted. "There was nothing more obnoxious than when he caught a pass and he got up and he signaled for a first down and he just gave it to you right in your face."

There were some Cowboys that Reese had a lot of respect for. One was Emmitt Smith.

"Just a great player and a very good guy," Reese said of Smith. "He was not a guy to hate. He was very modest. All he did was produce on the field."
